Surviving the Summer....TOGETHER!
Hey everyone! This week, we have some fun structured activities that will help get you through the summer months! School is coming to a close quickly and I know most of us are sitting here saying, 'What am I going to DO with my kids for next 8 weeks?????'
While I know it is unlikely that everyday will be filled with fun and crafts and popsicles, a teacher can dream right? I've got some really great resources lined up for this week, but also some ideas for summer reading lists, chore charts for Wi-Fi Passwords or Tech Tokens, and so much more! Of course all the activities, printables, and ideas are easily adaptable for different vision needs.
Let's dive right in!
First things first, let's develop our Summer Bucket List of desired activities. Below are a few examples, but it might be nice as a first weekend of summer activity to sit as a family and develop a list together of things to do. As you check off activities, it would be fun to add a picture or journal entry into a summer journal. It is easy to get kids writing about all the fun they had! It also keeps them in the habit of writing every day!
While I know that parents work and there might not be an adventure to be had every day, there is still room for fun! It is fun to get kids up and moving, instead of just sitting on an ipad/phone or in front of the TV everyday. Here are some ways to make sure that screen time is limited until Basic chores are completed! If you are in need of printable Chore Charts, head on over to this amazing blog! She has so many FREE printable Chart Ideas! http://mamateaches.com/free-chore-charts-for-kids/
Another way is to provide a list of things to do BEFORE your child gets the wifi password!
Any way you slice it, we are all gearing up for a fun, exciting summer filled with wonderful activities! Grab your SPF and join the party! Happy Summer!

A great option for limiting screen time is by providing tokens! I really enjoy the jars shown below, because it keeps things organized and is not a huge amount of space on a counter. The second chore chart uses money as a motivator, but that could also contain Tech Tokens. Or the money could go into a jar for spending money during your bigger adventures during the summer! I really like that students can incorporate money math concepts into their summer plans, always teaching I know!
It is always a good thing to incorporate mini teaching moments into the summer, regardless of how structured it is! Other ideas might include letting the kids be in charge of budgeting, purchasing and fixing their own lunches. Or researching summer camps within the area.
